Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut recently made headlines for her remarks about Gen Z and students protesting at Jantar
Mantar in Delhi over the NEET-UG paper leak. She had called them "generation gutter" and slammed the young protesters for their language and behaviour. On Wednesday, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the actress in Agra over her comments. In a recent interview, Kangana clarified whom the remark was directed towards and said that it was not a blanket statement.
Kangana Ranaut CLARIFIES Gutter Generation Remark After FIR
In an interview with ANI, Kangana Ranaut said in Hindi, "Those who call themselves cockroaches, and we say that cockroaches emerge from gutters, what is wrong with that? My point is simply this: if people label themselves as cockroaches, and we say the gutter is their home, why should they be offended?"
Kangana said that she certainly does not consider herself a cockroach and would deny living in a gutter if someone made such a claim. However, she added that those who identify themselves as cockroaches would naturally live in a gutter, stressing that she was not referring to all youth.
"If some young people use drugs, or if we discuss the current trend of addiction involving drugs, betting, gambling, or the dark web, addressing a specific segment of the youth doesn't mean I was making a blanket statement about everyone. Did I say that all youth belong to the gutter? I specifically referred to some people or some women. So, how else should we address this?" she asked.

FIR Against Kangana Ranaut For 'Gutter Generation' Remark
For those unversed, Kangana Ranaut had shared a series of Instagram Stories during the CJP protest in which she criticised the Gen Z there. She had described the reels from the protests as disturbing and expressed disapproval of the language and behaviour displayed in them. She even questioned who was raising the young protesters.
She wrote, "Here is a new generation of so-called westernised Indian women. I call them generation gutter."
An FIR was recently filed against Kangana by Rajiv Gandhi Bar Association President and advocate Ramashankar Sharma before an Agra court. In his lawsuit, the lawyer alleged that the actress-politician had "insulted" students and their parents through her remarks. He also accused her of repeatedly making such comments.
The first hearing in the case is scheduled to take place on August 21.
