‘happy’ ending, also re-released in Tamil as Ambikapathy, drew criticism from both Aanand and Dhanush, who were vocal about the alteration of their original vision. Now, actor-director Farhan Akhtar has expressed his support for Anand L. Rai, the director of Raanjhanaa, amid the controversy surrounding the film’s AI-altered ending. Speaking at the teaser launch of his upcoming movie 120 Bahadur on Tuesday, Farhan spoke about his loyalty to the film’s creator.

At the teaser launch of his film, when Farhan was questioned about the controversy, the Rock On star shared, “I will always stand with the creator of the film. If the creator is unhappy about their work being changed, I will support them. That’s where my loyalty lies. I’m not aware of the detailed circumstances, but that’s all I can say.”

Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan’s partner at Excel Entertainment, echoed his sentiments and added his thoughts on AI in filmmaking. “I agree with Farhan. AI is a tool we need to embrace, but it must be used wisely and responsibly. Back in the day, research meant going to a library; now, with Google and AI, the approach has changed. You have to use AI smartly and not get lazy.”
He continued, “Consent is crucial. I haven’t seen the AI-altered Raanjhanaa, but from what I’ve heard, if the filmmaker, actors, and others involved haven’t given their consent, it shouldn’t be done. AI is here to stay, but it must be used to your advantage—carefully and respectfully.”

About Raanjhanaa AI ending controversy
For those unaware, in the original Raanjhanaa, Dhanush’s character Kundan dies after being shot, with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) at his side. However, the new AI version shows Kundan surviving and waking up in the hospital as Bindiya (Swara Bhasker) and Murari (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) rejoice.
The AI modification has sparked conflict between director Anand L. Rai and production house Eros. While Eros defended the changes and asserted their rights over the content, Rai publicly stated that the decision was made without his approval and warned that it could set a “dangerous precedent.”
Adding to the dispute, Eros also accused Rai of using Raanjhanaa’s intellectual property in his upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein.
