the project that comes after more than a decade of delays, cancellations, and speculations around the next installment. With the confirmation that a new World War Z film is finally happening, fans cannot be any more excited. Inspired by the 2006 novel by Max Brooks, and directed by Marc Forster, World War Z first released in 2013.
What do we know about new World War Z film?
Brad Pitt acquired the rights to adapt Max Brooks' 2006 novel. He starred in the first movie, which followed his character Gerry Lane, a former UN investigator, racing across the globe to stop a fast-spreading zombie pandemic. Unlike traditional zombie stories, the infection spreads in seconds, turning cities into chaos almost instantly. Gerry travels from Philadelphia to Jerusalem, Seoul, and beyond, trying to uncover the origin and a possible solution.
World War Z isn't your typical zombie film. It is closer to a global thriller with horror elements. The story blends large-scale disaster spectacle with a tense, investigative thriller.
Along with Brad Pitt, the film also starred Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox, Daniella Kertesz, David Morse, Fana Mokoena, David Andrews and others. Made at a budget of approx $190 million, it collected $540+ million worldwide, emerging as the highest-grossing zombie film ever.
About World War Z sequel
A sequel of World War Z was announced a decade ago with David Fincher attached to direct. While initially conceived as a trilogy, the plan for part 2 was canceled in 2019 due to undisclosed reasons.
While Brad Pitt starred and also produced the original film under his Plan B Entertainment, whether or not he'll reprise his role as Gerry Lane or remain behind the scenes as a producer is yet to be known. However, it is expected he will be involved in some capacity in the making of the film.
What to expect?
Paramount Studios has not yet offered any plot details, casting, or a release date, but the announcement for a new World War Z film confirms it is going back to one of its biggest zombie properties. One can expect the plot to turn towards either a post-outbreak world trying to rebuild civilization or a continuation of Gerry Lane's global mission.
