Marvel is playing its cards right by generating immense intrigue about its next big tentpole, Avengers: Doomsday. The makers might have dropped four teasers
of the upcoming mega production featuring the return of Captain America, Thor, Fantastic Four, Black Panther, along with the relaunch of X-Men, months ahead of its release on December 18, 2026, there's more to what meets the eye. Infact the fact that director duo Russo Brothers have themselves claimed that the teasers aren't just promos, but "clues" we must "pay attention" to, has left the MCU fandom in a frenzy about the possible Easter Eggs. With every teaser, the makers teased that each clip depicts stories and clues about what's coming in the MCU's events. "What you’ve been watching for the last four weeks… are not teasers. Or trailers. They are stories. They are clues… Pay attention," Russo Brothers wrote in an Instagram post, leaving us scratching our heads.
Doomsday teasers' glitches
If one tries to sit and decipher the cryptic clues the teasers provide us, it might lead to some intriguing theories.
To begin with, Avengers: Doomsday's trailers possibly contain time codes to scenes from Marvel's previous mega blockbuster, Avengers: Endgame. These points are glitches that come in each clock in Doomsday clips. Though one can argue whether they are digitally altered to remove spoiler elements or created for marketing purposes. The biggest throwback to this is how Marvel added Mark Ruffalo's Hulk in Infinity War trailer, and removed Iron Man in Endgame when the Avengers are moving towards the time heist. That's because, one, we didn't know if Hulk could end up at Wakanda in his angry avatar. And two, Iron Man was still lost in space with Nebula, leaving the audience guessing about his return to Earth-616.
Breaking down the clues, theories
Coming back to Doomsday teasers, each one ends with a countdown to the film's release date, with a quick glitch that appears as a secret code.
A closer check on these numbers can be theorised as time codes for Avengers: Endgame scenes. A user u/TheMaverickOne7 on Reddit concluded on similar lines that "1e" in each video represents 1 hour, the next part represents the minute, and the 02020 stands for 20 seconds. The corresponding scenes could be a major tease of Doomsday's major plot points.
1. Steve Roger's trailer code: 1e 24ber 02020
1 hour, 24 minutes, 20 seconds - Endgame features the scene where the Ancient One warns Bruce Banner that "millions will suffer" if the superheroes displace the Infinity Stones, risking creating branched timelines. In Doomsday, Steve's travels could see the Ancient One's warning coming true leading to a collapse of multiverse and millions suffering.
2. Thor's trailer code: 1e 17ber 02020
1 hour, 17 minutes, 20 seconds - The scene showed Loki disguised as Captain America uttering, On my way down to coordinate search and rescue." This one probably gets directly linked to Loki and Captain America's flashback scene where Steve is still in another universe before getting forced to return and correct his mistake. For Loki, he could be "coordinating search and rescue" by reassembling the Avengers. Rumours have been claiming that Tom Hiddleston's Loki is one of the main leads of Doomsday.
3. X-Men's trailer code: 1e 11ber 02020
1 hour, 11 minutes, 20 seconds - Rocket asks Thor, "Are you crying?" Could this be an answer to why Thor was crying over Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine? Possibly yes, if not teasing his fear about his next battle and the corresponding losses, now that he has adopted Love as a daughter.
4. Final trailer code: 1e 04ber 02020
1 hour, 4 minutes, 20 seconds - Rocket tells Ant-Man, "You want to go to space puppy? I'll take you to space." One can believe it to be a general tease of the cosmic/multiversal threat. Another option is Wakandans and Fantastic Four going into space as part of the plot. One can only expect some of the Guardians of the Galaxy members to make appearances under this possibility.
Why does Doomsday trailer include time codes?
A major reason here could be the connection between Endgame and Doomsday. Speculations are already rife that the latter is a direct sequel to the former, and takes off after the events like death of Iron Man, Captain America taking away the Infinity Stones and chosing to live a life with his lady liove, Peggy Carter. These two, along with some other elements could have resulted in the chaos in the timelines and the possible destruction of Earth from an incursion.
