Rajinikanth's highly anticipated Thalaivar 173, backed by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), has officially been titled Dharman. Bringing
an end to months of speculation and uncertainty, the makers confirmed that Oh My Kadavule and Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu will helm the project. The film was unveiled at a grand title launch event in Chennai, where the first-look poster introduced Rajinikanth in a stylish doctor's avatar. The poster, featuring the tagline 'the Deadly Doctor,' this has already created excitement among fans. Starring Simran and Raashi Khanna in key roles, Dharman is set to go on floors on June 25.

Ashwath Marimuthu's addition to the film comes after earlier plans involving directors Sundar C and Cibi Chakravarthi failed to take place. The first-look poster presents Rajinikanth in a stylish new avatar as a doctor. Dressed in medical attire, the superstar is seen holding surgical equipment in a striking visual.
Dharman stars Simran as the female lead, marking her reunion with Rajinikanth after Petta (2019). The film also brings her back together with Kamal Haasan's banner after collaborations such as Panchathanthiram and Pammal K Sambandam. Raashi Khanna has also joined the cast. Meanwhile, speculation continues over the possible inclusion of filmmaker-actor Mysskin, though an official confirmation is still awaited.
Director Ashwath Marimuthu has officially taken over the reins of Superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming film Dharman, previously referred to as Thalaivar 173. Backed by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, the project has undergone several changes during its development. The film was initially announced with Sundar C. as director, but he later exited due to unforeseen circumstances. Don filmmaker Cibi Chakravarthi subsequently came on board before eventually being replaced by Ashwath Marimuthu. Early industry reports had suggested that Rajinikanth would play a tailor with a hidden dark past. However, with the change in director and the unveiling of the first-look poster, those reports appear to have been shifted to a later time.

At the event Kamal Haasan expressed confidence in director Ashwath Marimuthu, saying the team had placed its trust and aspirations in him. He said that while everyone expected Ashwath to deliver, it was not a pressure but a reminder that he had the full support of the entire team behind him.
The film boasts an impressive technical crew. Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music, while Niketh Bommi handles cinematography. Editing duties have been entrusted to Pradeep E Ragav, with celebrated stunt choreographers Anbariv overseeing the action sequences. Production is set to begin on June 25.
