What is the story about?
Thalapathy Vijay fans have been waiting for his last film - Jana Nayagan - to hit the theatres for a long time now. While the movie was scheduled for a January
19 release, it has been facing hurdles, reportedly due to pending CBFC clearance. The uncertainty now seems to have pushed the film further. According to recent reports, Jana Nayagan may only arrive in theatres after Yash's Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, also backed by KVN Productions.
Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan to release after Yash's Toxic?
According to a recent report in Gulte, Jana Nayagan release seems to be in limbo and it will be expected in theatres after two major KVN Productions movies - KD The Devil and Toxic. The report further stated that the delay has begun affecting the film’s business deals. The OTT partner - streaming giant Amazon Prime Video is said to have pulled out of its agreement, and Phars Film has withdrawn from the overseas distribution deal. With multiple projects lined up, the producers are now likely to reassess their release plans. One option being considered is shifting the film to June 2026 to coincide with Vijay’s birthday, while another possibility is a July release.Jana Nayagan might be positioned after KVN Productions' busy schedule, which includes KD: The Devil on April 30, 2026, and Toxic on June 4, 2026. However, a new date has not yet been formally announced.
About Jana Nayagan
Directed by H. Vinoth, the film follows Vetri Kondan, a former cop turned prisoner who takes in a young girl, Viji, and raises her to be strong and independent. Despite her aversion to violence, he encourages her to join the military, shaping her future through discipline and resilience. The film also features a large ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and others in key roles.Meanwhile, last week filmmaker Ameer Sultan shared his thought on the delay surrounding Jana Nayagan, suggesting that politics may be playing a role in the film not getting clearance.
The film, which was earlier set for a January 9 theatrical release, has since been pushed indefinitely and is widely expected to be Vijay’s final film. Reacting to the situation, Ameer said he had never seen a case where the Censor Board referred a film to the Election Commission for a decision. According to him, such a move hints at a larger political factor behind the delay. He added that films are usually held back for reasons like excessive violence or content affecting social harmony, making this situation unusual.
