What is the story about?
Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi is one of the most awaited films of 2026. Initially scheduled to release in April 2026, the Apoorva Lakhia-directed film was
postponed indefinitely due to reshoots and script revisions. While some reports stated that Salman Khan’s war drama will hit the screens in the second half of 2026, a new report suggests Maatrubhumi will be pushed to 2027. If this happens, there will be no Salman Khan film in 2026. In 2027, Salman Khan fans are likely to get a double dose of entertainment in the forms of Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace and SVC 63.
No Salman Khan Film In 2026?
According to a Bollywood Hungama report, Maatrubhumi's release has been delayed due to the Ministry of Defence's reservations over the film’s content and mention of China in the film. A source informed the portal that the issues are yet to be resolved.
Even if the makers manage to resolve the issues, it will now be difficult for them to secure a good release slot as major dates have already been booked by some ambitious projects in Indian cinema. Salman Khan doesn’t believe in clashing with another film unnecessarily.
As per the industry insider, Dussehra could be a suitable option for the Maatrubhumi release as it falls on a Tuesday (October 20), and it could benefit the Salman Khan film due to an extended five-day weekend. "Ramayana is expected to be preponed to October 30. After that, no major release is scheduled until the last week of November, which could also work in Maatrubhumi’s favour,” the source added.
On the other hand, Rajkummar Rao’s Raftaar and Emraan Hashmi-Genelia Deshmukh’s Gunmaaster G9 are expected to release on October 16. However, the producers have not yet made any official announcement on the same.
The source also said that if the issues are not resolved soon, Maatrubhumi will be pushed to next year. If it happens, two Salman Khan films will release in 2027. He is currently shooting for Vamshi Paidipally’s untitled film, which stars Nayanthara as the female lead.
About Maatrubhumi And SVC 63
Maatrubhumi – May War Rest In Peace also stars Chitrangada Singh as the female lead. Salman Khan is playing the role of Colonel B Santosh Babu. It is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between the Indian Army and the Chinese troops. The makers have already shared the announcement teaser and a few video songs from the film to create a buzz for the film.
Coming back to SVC 63, the film is being produced by Dil Raju. Salman Khan is reportedly sporting multiple looks in the actioner. Dil Raju said that SVC 63 will be a grand Salman Khan entertainer with high-octane action, drama and emotions.
