Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, the film hit theatres this Friday and opened to positive reviews. Inspired by a series of true events, it has been praised for its treatment of complex themes like justice and morality. Amid positive reviews, Daayra is also picking up pace at the box office. After earning Rs 1.15 crore on day 1, the film recorded stronger numbers on its first Saturday (September 19, 2026). It witnessed a nearly 90 per cent increase in footfalls.
Daayra Box Office Collection Day 2
Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran's Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar, saw a significant rise in its earnings on day 2. Its India net collections nearly doubled to Rs 2.18 crore. This took its overall total to Rs 3.34 crore.
The improved performance indicates positive audience response and gives the film momentum going into Sunday. It is expected to grow bigger before the crucial first Monday.

About Daayra
Daayra is produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), and distributed by Pen Marudhar. Following the highly acclaimed Raazi, Talvar and Sam Bahadur, Daayra marks Meghna Gulzar's third collaboration with Junglee Pictures.
In the film, Prithviraj plays DCP Raman Kumar, who comes under scrutiny for allegedly carrying out a staged encounter following a horrific crime in his jurisdiction. Bebo's DCP Ajooni Kohli is tasked with uncovering the truth. As the investigation unfolds, the two officers find themselves on opposite sides of a complicated case.
Recently, Kareena said that she was glad that Junglee Pictures and Meghna considered her for the role. She added, "Because somewhere I feel Daayra is such an important film, a topic that I think needs to be spoken about." Meanwhile, Meghna heaped praise on Kareena for her portrayal of Ajooni. "The way Kareena has played Ajooni.. she's done it with like a twisted dark humour, she's done it with sass, she's done it with sarcasm, she's done it with her eyes," said the director.
Prithviraj also showered praise on Kareena for her performance in the film.
