What is the story about?
Meghna Gulzar’s much-awaited crime thriller Daayra is getting closer to its theatrical release, and the makers have now unveiled another striking poster
featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The new visual brings the two lead characters into the same frame while keeping the mystery around their case alive. Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj portrays DCP Raman Kumar. Both characters appear serious and composed as they stand near a crime scene, surrounded by police tape. With only a few days left for the film to reach cinemas, the latest poster adds another layer of intrigue to the highly anticipated thriller.
Daayra New Poster Out
The new Daayra poster creates an intense atmosphere without revealing too much about the story. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran are seen standing on opposite sides of a crime scene. The yellow police tape runs across the frame, while a dark structure in the background adds to the uneasy mood. The visual suggests that the case at the centre of the film is far from simple.
Kareena’s DCP Ajooni Kohli looks calm but firm in the poster. She is dressed in a white lace-sleeved shirt with a dark vest and maintains a serious expression. Kareena has earlier described the character as a restrained role that allowed her to explore a different side of her performance.
Prithviraj’s DCP Raman Kumar, meanwhile, appears equally serious, as he is standing in uniform. The contrasting positions of the two officers seem to reflect the conflict at the heart of Daayra. Earlier posters introduced them as two senior police officers with different perspectives.
The film is inspired by true events and explores crime, punishment, justice, and accountability. The story brings Ajooni and Raman into a complicated case, with their approaches to justice becoming an important part of the narrative.
Daayra Set For September 18 Release
Daayra is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 18, 2026. The film marks the first on-screen collaboration between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. It is directed by Meghna Gulzar, who returns to the crime and investigation space after exploring complex subjects in films such as Talvar. The film is produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios.
The film has been positioned as an investigative thriller that does not simply focus on solving a crime. Its story also looks at the difficult questions that emerge when people responsible for upholding the law have different ideas about justice. This gives Daayra a more serious subject while keeping the focus on the two central police officers and the case that brings them together.
