Jana Nayagan Release Delay: Veteran filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar, father of Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay, has finally spoken out about the ongoing
release delay of Jana Nayagan, a film widely seen as Vijay's last project before fully entering politics. Amid legal disputes and certification hurdles that saw its planned January 9 release get indefinitely postponed, Chandrasekhar framed the setbacks as part of the challenges faced by anyone transitioning into politics. Suggesting that the public already understands the root causes behind the CBFC not granting certificate to Jana Nayagan, Chandrasekhar stated that Vijay is unfazed about all the noise and hurdles regarding his film delay as well as political entry.
Vijay's Father SA Chandrasekhar Links Jana Nayagan Delay To Politics
Addressing the media gathered around him, Chandrasekhar did not shy away from connecting Jana Nayagan postponement to Vijay's political journey rather than just industry or certification issues. "The people know what happened in Karur. Vijay is not afraid of anything. His chances of success are bright," he said, referencing the major tragedy in Karur that has overshadowed recent months.
Chandrasekhar went further, invoking longstanding political patterns in Tamil Nadu while talking about entrenched parties resisting change. "Dravidian parties have ruled Tamil Nadu for more than 60 years," he said, hinting at why forces opposed to Vijay's entry might be exerting pressure indirectly on the film's release.
In the same exchange, he pointed to what he sees as a positive outcome of Vijay's move into politics, a new sense of engagement among young voters and women. He added that 'young people and women are discussing politics after Vijay entered politics'. The remarks by Vijay's father have come as a sigh of releif fordie-hard fans worrying about the Tamil superstar.
Jana Nayagan Vs CBFC - What's The Latest Update In Legal Matter?
In the ongoing legal tussle between Jana Nayagan's makers and the CBFC, the film remains without a censor certificate. The producers submitted the movie to the CBFC on December 18, 2025, and reportedly complied with all the cuts and changes suggested by the examining committee, which initially recommended a U/A 16+ certificate.
However, a complaint alleging objectionable portrayal of religious sentiments and the armed forces prompted the CBFC chairperson to refer the matter to a Revising Committee, delaying the process further. The producers filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court on January 6, 2026, seeking quick certification before the planned January 9 release, but the legal process has since gone into a loop of appeals and hearings.
During the latest hearing, a Division Bench of the Madras High Court set aside a single judge's order that had directed the CBFC to issue the certificate immediately and instead remanded the case back to the single judge for a fresh hearing, noting procedural lapses and giving the board more time to respond. This effectively means that Jana Nayagan cannot proceed to release until further judicial review and decision.
