Talking about the most moving responses she received after The Kerala Story, Adah shared how survivors themselves connected deeply with the film. “The girls, the victims who shared their stories with us when they watched the film, their reactions, and them being able to tell their stories fearlessly publicly after the film was out was the best compliment,” she said.
For first-time viewers, she hopes they approach it with empathy. “This isn’t just a film - it’s someone’s truth. Let it sink in. The Kerala Story is about what happens when that freedom is stolen. Watch it with an open heart… and maybe keep lotsss of tissues nearby.”
The conversation also turned to Commando, which was released on YouTube, not any OTT platform. She said, “It’s the most democratic release possible - anyone, anywhere, just click and boom… action begins. It doesn’t need wrapping, just good internet speed.”
Opening up about her most challenging moment on set of Commando, she recalled, “There’s a kissing scene in the middle of the most busy street in Bangkok. That was the toughest ‘action’ stunt scene I’ve shot. It’s the last scene of the film. The camera kept going out of focus and more and more people began to gather around.”
Finally, on the larger debate of nepotism in the industry, Adah summed it up with her trademark wit and said, “Nepotism is like gravity - it’s always there… but I’ve gotten really good at wearing wings.”
