What is the story about?
After legal notices from both sides, film bodies and artist associations getting involved and the whole industry apparently being divided over it, the Don
3 row may have dialled down. But it’s far from over. While another update in the case filed by Ranveer Singh against Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment is still awaited, the latter has indirectly opened up about feeling heartbroken. In a recent interview, the actor-filmmaker was talking about how Saif Ali Khan almost quit Dil Chahta Hai days before filming was set to commence when he appeared to take a subtle jibe at Ranveer over the Don 3 exit controversy. Read on to know what Farhan said.
Farhan Akhtar Takes Fresh Swipe At Ranveer Singh Over Don 3 Exit
On 25 years of Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan recalled Saif suddenly facing a date issue after the schedule of another film he was set to do shifted. During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, he said that the Hum Tum actor was caught in a difficult situation and eventually decided to leave the film despite everyone trying to convince him to stay. The director shared, "For me, it was just like my head was destroyed because it was... When we met him, when we got into it, there was nobody else who could've played that part. It was just impossible."
Taking a subtle jibe at the Don 3 exit row involving Ranveer Singh, Farhan added that it was a "true heartbreak" for him when Saif’s exit happened just weeks before filming. He further remarked, "It was a month away from filming, which seems to be a pattern nowadays."
The interviewer laughed out loud after understanding the not-so-unobvious dig while Farhan smiled and added, "But, not just with me... aisa bhi hota hai."
Don 3 Exit Row
For those unaware, Ranveer was accused of walking away from Akhtar’s Don 3 days before filming was set to begin. The parties reportedly had a major fallout over this abrupt exit. While he reportedly offered to return the signing amount, the makers of the film allegedly demanded compensation of Rs 45 crore for the pre-production losses incurred.
The controversy escalated further after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) announced a non-cooperation move against the actor over his decision to leave Don 3 shortly before filming was scheduled to begin. The organisation later revoked the directive and clarified that Ranveer had not been banned.
However, soon after FWICE announced the action against him, the Dhurandhar actor reportedly issued a legal notice to the organisation.
Throughout the controversy, Ranveer has largely chosen to remain silent. His spokesperson, however, issued a statement saying that the actor has immense respect for the film fraternity and everyone associated with Don 3.
