Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly took to her social media to criticise the Supreme Court’s order on relocating stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelter homes,
expressing concern that the move would displace them from their familiar surroundings and community.
Rupali Ganguly criticises Supreme Court’s decision
Earlier today, the Anupamaa star posted a detailed note on X, strongly opposing the SC’s decision. She argued that shifting dogs to shelter homes is not an act of kindness but rather “putting them in exile.” “In our traditions, dogs guard Bhairav Baba’s temple and are fed on Amavasya for blessings. They’ve grown up on our streets, guarding shops, waiting outside our doors, barking away thieves,” Rupali wrote.“If we remove them now, we risk losing our protectors before the real dangers arrive, like silencing an alarm before a fire. Sending them to far-off shelters isn’t kindness, it’s exile. Stray dogs aren’t outsiders; they’re part of our faith, our culture, our safety. Care for them, vaccinate them, feed them, and let them live where they belong. #straydogs”

Rupali Ganguly reacts to “beef-eater” remark
Responding to a netizen’s accusation of being a “beef-eater,” Rupali clarified, “I feed the homeless animals on a daily basis… every animal I feed has been regularly vaccinated and sterilised. I support animal shelters and gaushalas not only in my city but all over India. I’m a proud vegetarian and I support the homeless fur babies. I do not have a single elite breed at home, instead, I have four Indies. My child has been with so-called stray animals since he was a baby, and even an animal who had never known him before has protected him. They understand love and kindness, which humans fail to understand. This earth belongs to all.”I feed the homeless animals on a daily basis … every animal I feed has been regularly vaccinated and sterilized…. On Monday, the Supreme Court ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi and the NCR must be caught within eight weeks and housed in special shelters to be set up by civic authorities. The court made it clear that once a dog is caught, it will not be released back onto the streets.A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan issued the directions while hearing a case taken up on its own regarding the increasing number of stray dog attacks. The judges also stated that anyone who tries to obstruct the authorities from carrying out the captures will face contempt of court action.
The court further directed that a helpline be set up in Delhi-NCR to report dog bite cases. Upon receiving a complaint, the dog involved must be captured within four hours.
