Dhanush and Mammootty's much-awaited Tamil film OM: Chapter One – Udhiram: The Blood Wood will no longer release on October 16 as planned. The film has
been postponed to avoid a clash with Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15. Dhanush, who is also producing OM, announced the decision on social media on Wednesday. He said the move was made out of respect for Rajinikanth. The actor also confirmed that OM will not take the Diwali release window, as Suriya's upcoming film Scene had already announced its date.
Dhanush-Mammootty Starrer OM Postponed
OM was earlier scheduled to release in theatres on October 16, just a day after Jailer 2. With both films being major Tamil releases, the dates had raised the possibility of a big festive box office clash. Dhanush has now confirmed that OM will move to a later date, although the makers have not announced its new release date yet.
Sharing the decision, Dhanush spoke about his admiration and respect for Rajinikanth. He wrote, "Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we have all admired and worshipped over the years has his film arriving on October 15th, just a day before ours. Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date."
Dhanush also made it clear that OM will not be shifted to the Diwali weekend. Suriya's upcoming film Scene, directed by Jithu Madhavan, is scheduled to arrive on November 6, two days before Diwali. According to Dhanush, the team had announced its date first, and Om will therefore stay away from that release window as well.
The actor further explained that big films need to maintain a sense of understanding when choosing release dates. He said that the decision was taken keeping the larger welfare of cinema and the film industry in mind.
Jailer 2 To Arrive Solo On October 15
With OM moving out of October 16, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 now gets a clear run for its October 15 theatrical release. Sun Pictures officially confirmed the date earlier this month after speculation about a possible postponement. The sequel is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and brings Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian.
Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The upcoming film features several returning actors along with new additions. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu are among the names associated with the film, while Vidya Balan, S J Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mithun Chakraborty are also part of the cast.
