What is the story about?
The Delhi High Court has issued a formal notice to Salman Khan following a plea from a China-based artificial intelligence voice generation company that
is challenging a court order protecting the actor's personality rights. This legal dispute centres around a December 11 interim injunction that prohibits the unauthorised use of Salman's name, image and voice in digital media and commercial platforms. The AI firm has asked the court to set aside that order, arguing that the restrictions affect its lawful business of creating voice models. The High Court has asked Salman Khan to respond within four weeks, and the next hearing in the case is scheduled for February 27.
Salman Khan Approached High Court For Protection Of Personality Rights
It all started when Salman sought legal intervention to protect his personality and publicity rights amid increasing misuse of his identity online. On December 11, 2025, the Delhi High Court granted an interim injunction in his favour, directing social media intermediaries and other platforms to remove or restrict content that exploited his persona without permission.
That order was aimed at combating deepfake content, AI-generated voices, fake endorsements and unauthorised merchandise leveraging his fame.
All About Chinese Firm's Plea
In its recent application, the China-based AI voice generation platform has asked the court to vacate this interim injunction. The company claims that generating synthetic voices is an integral part of its services, and the current restrictions effectively curb its commercial activity.
It wants the December order to be overturned so it can continue its work without legal hurdles. The High Court accepted the plea and issued notice to Salman Khan, seeking his detailed response. The matter will be heard again on February 27.
With the rise of generative AI tools capable of mimicking voices and likenesses, questions about how personality rights apply in the digital age are gaining prominence in Indian courts. Besides Salman, several other celebrities including Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and others have moved court for the same.
