What is the story about?
Sivakarthikeyan starrer Parasakthi has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). According to reports, the makers were asked to undertake
23 cuts following the movie's review on January 7. Parasakthi is now advancing to its release date on January 10, and will face Thalapathy Vijay's latest releaseJana Nayagan at the box office, which opens a day ahead, on January 9 this week. Parasakthi also stars Ravi Mohan and Atharvaa, alongside Dev Ramnath, Prithvi Rajan, Guru Somasundaram, Basil Joseph, Papri Ghosh, and Rana Daggubati. The Sudha Kongara directorial marks the Tamil debut of Sreeleela.
Parasakthi's CBFC clearance and cuts
On January 8, a report by NDTV stated that Parasakthi will be receiving its CBFC certificate on Thursday after instructing 23 edits. The publication cited sources that claimed CBFC in Chennai asked the makers to remove certain scenes and dialogues that showed the anti-Hindi agitation. Reports claim that director Sudha Kongara has approached the Revising Committee of the Censor Board in Mumbai over concerns that the suggested cuts could disrupt the storyline and impact the plot thus, altering its historical context. The makers have not yet reacted or issued any official statement on the same.
Parasakthi's plagiarism controversy
Parasakthi is a political action thriller, set in the 1960s, and produced by Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures. Last week, the film got caught in a controversy after a plagiarism case was filed alleging that the story was taken without permission. A complaint was forwarded to South Indian Film Writers Association by KV Rajendram that his story 'Chemmozhi' about anti-Hindi agitations and riots, has been plagiarised by the film's writer and director Sudha Kongara. The case pleaded for the stay of release of the film. The Madras High Court however, refused to stay the release which came as a big relief for the makers.
