What is the story about?
And finally, Golden from KPop Demon Hunters has won an Oscar award. Sung by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, it became the first-ever K-Pop song to win an Academy
Award. Before Golden won the award, the singers performed a rendition of their track on the Oscars 2026 stage. The segment was teased as a fusion of traditional Korean instrumentalists and dance before the main ceremony telecast. And now, Golden has been declared as the Best Original Song at the 98th Academy Awards 2026. EJAE got emotional while accepting the award on stage.
Golden wins Oscar award, EJAE gets emotional
EJAE accepted the Oscar award for KPop Demon Hunters song Golden. On the stage, the singer got emotional while accepting the award. She said, "Growing up, people made fun of me, like in K-pop, but now everyone's singing our song, and all the Korean lyrics, I'm so proud. And I realised, like, the song this award is about, not about success, it's about resilience. And I'm just so grateful to our team." The team's speech was cut-short even though a request for additional five minutes was made. Mark Sonnenblick was cut off mid-speech.
While receiving the award for Best Animated Film, Maggie Kang, film's co-writer and co-director, said, "For those of you who look like me, I’m so sorry that it took so long to see us in a movie like this, but it is here. That means the next generations don’t have to go longing." She added that the award was for Korea and Koreans everywhere.
For the uninitiated, the K-Pop song has been written by Mark Sonnenblick, IDO, 24 and Teddy Park. Since past few months, the singers of this track have been on promotional tour. They have performed across several parties during the Grammys week. In fact, the singers even reunited to perform Golden at the BAFTA Awards and BRIT Awards.
