At No. 1 is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which remains the benchmark with a staggering $149.2 million second weekend. The 2015 sequel's phenomenal run eventually took it to $936 million domestically, a record that stood for years.
Just behind it is Avengers: Endgame, which collected $147.3 million in its second weekend in 2019. The Marvel epic ultimately became one of the biggest films in box-office history, powered by extraordinary audience demand following its record-breaking debut.
Now occupying the third spot is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with $144.5 million in its second weekend. The Sony-Marvel blockbuster has raced past $655 million domestically in only 10 days, while its worldwide haul has already crossed $1.67 billion. It is also the first Sony film ever to clear $100 million in its second weekend.
Fourth on the list is Avengers: Infinity War, which earned $114.7 million during its second weekend in 2018. It was followed by Black Panther, which posted $111.6 million in its second frame the same year.
The sixth position belongs to Jurassic World, which grossed $106.5 million in its second weekend in 2015. The dinosaur blockbuster had previously opened to a massive $208.8 million, setting the stage for one of the strongest legs of the year.
At No. 7 is Marvel's The Avengers, which made $103 million in its second weekend in 2012. The Joss Whedon-directed superhero crossover was a major turning point for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and became a landmark theatrical event.
Rounding out the list is Pixar's Inside Out 2, which earned $101.2 million in its second weekend in 2024. Its inclusion demonstrates that the phenomenon is not limited to superhero or live-action franchises.
