What is the story about?
Kangana Ranaut has received interim relief from the Delhi High Court in her case seeking protection of her personality rights against AI generated deepfakes,
manipulated videos, and false quotes. The court has restrained the unauthorised use of the actor and BJP MP’s name, image, voice, and other personal attributes. It has also directed Meta Platforms to remove the identified infringing content and asked the concerned authorities to take steps to block websites carrying such material. The order comes after Kangana approached the court over content allegedly using her identity without permission, including fabricated speeches and digitally altered images and videos.
Kangana Ranaut's Personality Rights Protected By Delhi High Court
Justice Vikas Mahajan passed the interim order in a suit filed by Kangana Ranaut against Meta Platforms and others. The actor had alleged that social media platforms and websites were circulating fabricated statements, manipulated videos, morphed image,s and AI generated content falsely depicting her.
The court restrained the defendants from creating, publishing, sharing or otherwise using Kangana’s personality attributes without her authorisation. The protection covers her name, image, voice and likeness, along with AI generated deepfakes, synthetic media, fabricated speeches, false endorsements, and impersonation content.
The court also directed Meta to remove and permanently take down the identified infringing content within 72 hours of receiving a copy of the order. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Department of Telecommunications have been asked to issue necessary directions to internet and telecom service providers to block access to the identified websites within two weeks.
The court observed that Kangana’s public stature gives her proprietary rights over her personality and associated attributes, including the right to control their commercial use. It also noted that manipulated content and fabricated quotes could mislead viewers into believing that she had made statements or taken part in activities that never happened.
The order offers interim protection against the unauthorised use of her identity while the case proceeds further.
Kangana Ranaut Upcoming Movies: Queen 2, Untitled Project With Madhavan
Kangana Ranaut has several projects in the pipeline, including Queen 2 and an untitled film with R Madhavan. She has reunited with director Vikas Bahl for Queen 2. Kangana plays Rani again in the project, and she announced the completion of its shoot in June 2026.
However, the film has faced a legal challenge from Phantom Studios, which has approached the Bombay High Court alleging that the project uses the rights to Queen without its consent. JioStar, which is backing the film, has maintained that its project is an original story and has no creative connection to the 2014 film. Queen 2 is yet to receive an official release date.
Kangana has also been associated with an untitled project with R Madhavan, marking another collaboration between the two actors. They previously worked together in films such as Tanu Weds Manu and Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
