is in development at the US streaming service Peacock. Diesel, who is the face for the action franchise lately, made the surprising announcement at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation in New York City on May 11. The action star promised that the show would honour the legacy of the films. Here's what we know so far about the series and who's behind it.
Vin Diesel on the Fast & Furious TV universe
The Hollywood actor Diesel made an appearance at Upfronts Week in New York with Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. In a speech that has been shared online already, Diesel shared that the makers behind the film franchise have realised that the "fans have wanted more." Their wish was to expand the legacy characters and their stories. However, Diesel was waiting for the right time and now it had arrived.
On stage with Fallon, Diesel said, "I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV space." The actor also revealed that Peacock would be launching four shows from the Fast and Furious universe. However, a report in Variety states that only one is confirmed to be in the works. The others are in different stages of development at Universal TV.
About the Fast & Furious TV show
Diesel promised fans that the show would honour the franchise's legacy. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman have already been named as co-showrunners and executive producers. They are already writing the pilot. Diesel will also be an executive producer on the TV show, which is being produced by Universal Television.
This won't be the first show from the franchise. From 2019 to 2021, an animated television show, Fast & Furious Spy Racers, had aired on Netflix. The upcoming show would be the first live-action show from the Fast & Furious TV universe
