At a promotional event in Coimbatore ahead of Kara’s release, Dhanush opened up on his upcoming directorial plans. The filmmaker-actor confirmed that his return
to direction will take time, as he currently has multiple acting commitments lined up with several leading directors. Dhanush is currently awaiting the release of Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja which will released in theatres on April 30, and co-stars Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar as well.
Dhanush Talks About Delay in Next Directorial Venture
Dhanush has confirmed that his next film as a director will not begin anytime soon. Speaking at a premiere event in Coimbatore ahead of Kara, he explained that his schedule is currently packed with multiple acting films, leaving little room to take up direction immediately. He mentioned that he will first complete D55, directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy. After that, he is set to work with Mari Selvaraj on another film, followed by a film with director Pachaimuthu Thamizharasan, known for Lubber Pandhu.
He also confirmed that Vada Chennai 2 is part of his lineup, though he hinted that it may come later in the sequence depending on scheduling. His speech made it clear that his acting commitments are fully booked for the coming years. Dhanush said that at least three directors are currently waiting for him with scripts ready. However, due to the packed schedule, he will only be able to move on to those projects after completing his current commitments. He said that once all these films are finished, he can finally shift focus back to direction.
His most recent directorial, Idli Kadai, revolves around a man returning to his village following his father’s death. The film focused on family relationships and personal loss. His other directorial films include Power Pandi, Raayan and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam.
About Kara and upcoming releases
Before his next acting slate fully unfolds, Dhanush will appear in Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja. The film is a period crime thriller set in a rural backdrop and is scheduled for a multilingual release on April 30. The film features Mamitha Baiju as the female lead. She recently spoke about her experience working with Dhanush, praising his dedication, improvisation skills, and strong work ethic on set.
She also described her role as brief but impactful. One of the most anticipated projects in his lineup is D55, directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy and backed by Wunderbar Films. The film also marks the return of Mammootty to Tamil cinema after several years.
