What is Freaky Friday?
Freaky Friday is a popular body-swap story that originated as a 1972 children’s novel by Mary Rodgers. The story follows a mother and her teenage daughter whose constant clashes take an unexpected turn when they magically switch bodies, forcing them to experience each other’s lives and gain a deeper understanding of one another.
Over the years, the story has been adapted several times, including the 1976 film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, the 1995 television remake, and Disney’s much-loved 2003 version featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The franchise also expanded into a stage musical and a 2018 Disney Channel film, before returning to theatres with Freakier Friday in 2025.
