What is the story about?
After ruling Amazon Prime Video with three successful seasons, Mirzapur is getting its film adaptation, which was on the cards for many years. Titled Mirzapur:
The Movie, the story follows the timeline of the first season of the crime thriller. However, the narrative has been tweaked to match the sensibilities of a theatre-going audience. Ahead of Mirzapur: The Movie's release, here's a quick recap of season one of the show and the timeline that needs to be remembered before going to theatres this Friday (September 4).
What Is Mirzapur?
Set in India’s hinterland, the Mirzapur franchise on Amazon Prime Video tells a gripping saga of power, revenge, ambition, politics, betrayal, deceit, and intricate family dynamics. The story of Kaleen, Munna, Guddu and Bablu finds a new platform. While season one ended with a major twist and the deaths of two important characters, the film will explore a slightly different timeline. Ali Fazal said recently that the audience will have to revisit the first season till episode six.
What Happens In Mirzapur Season 1 Episode Six?
The sixth episode of Mirzapur season one changes the tonality of the show, leading to an unpredictable end. Before understanding what happened in the episode, it is important to know what events led to it.
Mirzapur's primary characters are Akhandanand Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi), popularly known as Kaleen Bhaiya. His son, Phoolchand Tripathi (Divyenndu) a.k.a Munna Bhaiya, is a power-hungry, ruthless man. On the other hand, Ramakant Pandit (Rajesh Tailang) is an honest lawyer, whose sons, elder Guddu (Ali Fazal) and younger Bablu (Vikrant Massey), are dragged into the gang wars. But how?
Munna, a short-tempered heir of Tripathi, kills the groom at a wedding. The bereaved family appoints Ramakant as their lawyer. Kaleen Bhaiya asks him to clear his mess before the arrival of an old rival, Rati Shankar. Munna threatens Ramakant to withdraw the case; he refuses.
When Ramakant refuses, Kaleen decides to intervene and summons Guddu and Bablu. Impressed by their loyalty and fairness, he offers them to join him in his drugs and arms business. They agree to join him and go to threaten the deceased groom's father to withdraw the case. As the Pandit brothers gain Akhandanand's trust and confidence, Munna gets furious.
Guddu And Bablu's Love Life
Munna, Guddu, and Bablu are studying in the same college as Sweety Gupta (Shriya Pilgaonkar) and her younger sister Golu Gupta (Shweta Tripathi). The Pandit brothers are in love with them. Sweety is Guddu's sister Dimpy's (Harshita Gaur) close friend and even Munna is in love with her. Sweety chooses Guddu over Munna. Due to Munna's behaviour, the college wants Golu to compete in the upcoming elections.
On the other hand, as Munna eyes the throne of Mirzapur, he gets Guddu addicted to steroids for bodybuilding through his friend Compounder (Abhishek Banerjee). After Munna expresses his desire to rule Mirzapur, Compounder offers to kill Kaleen and the former considers it.
Why Is Episode Six Titled Barfi?
Before the sixth episode, Guddu and Bablu agree to sell opium for Kaleen. Their father doesn't know about the deal. The Pandit brothers want to become rich and hence, they sell opium and drugs through eunuchs. As crime, gang wars and drug distribution increase in Mirzapur, SSP Ram Sharan Maurya (Amit Sial) is sent to the hotspot. He hatches a plan to track Guddu and Bablu in the sixth episode titled Barfi, which means an opium cake.
Mirzapur Season 1 Ending
In the final episode of Mirzapur season one, Guddu, Bablu, Sweety, and Golu travel to Gorakhpur to attend Dimpy's friend Shabnam's wedding. She is the daughter of Lala, who supplies opium to Kaleen's rival Rati Shankar. Guddu has killed Rati Shankar after he offered him and Bablu to join his gang. Akhanda is disappointed with Guddu for taking action without consulting him.
The rivalry between the Tripathis and Pandits begins as Munna accuses Guddu and Bablu of attacking his father. Kaleen hands over a gun to Munna, instructing him to eliminate Guddu and Bablu.
