Bhool Bhulaiyaa is hands down one of the most successful horror-comedy franchises Bollywood has produced. As soon as an iteration releases, fans start
demanding its next part. Similar curiosity was seen when Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 arrived. Now, fans want to know what's happening about its fourth part. It was reported that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4 is on the cards with Kartik Aaryan returning as Rooh Baba. But director Anees Bazmee has now revealed why the project is yet to take off despite high expectations. In an interview with Variety India, Bazmee said the real challenge was not casting and scheduling, but finding a story that can match the success of the previous films. According to him, it needs to have brand new elements for it to work. The filmmaker explained that since they had "put everything in the first three films," they now need a good story. "We even made the hero Manjulika! So naturally, now we need a great story to make the fourth film," he said. Thus, the search for a good idea was on, and the day they crack it, "I would love to direct it."
Bazmee's first choice remains Kartik Aaryan
The search for a good script was still in progress, but Bazmee had a lot of good things to say about Kartik Aaryan, who gave a fresh lease of life to the franchise as Rooh Baba. "I have a great rapport with Kartik. We are good friends, and both the films that we have made turned out to be big hits."
Bazmee called Kartik a director's actor. "His biggest plus point is that he puts in a lot of hard work. If he gets the help of a good director, he can do wonders. He is great at comedy and is full of laughter all day," the director revealed.

The director also spoke about his practice of working, over and over, with actors with whom he feels a very strong creative connection. He has shared the screen with stars like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan in many hit movies and says that trust and friendship often make for better collaboration on screen.
"I feel it is the friendship that when we work with each other, we enjoy it and the whole emotion is different. So I am sure, with Kartik too, whenever I make a film, we will make a good one," he shared.
Another comedy in development
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4 is on hold for now, but Bazmee is busy with another big project. The director revealed he is currently working on completing a new comedy with Akshay Kumar in the lead. The film features actors Vidya Balan, Rashii Khanna and others.
Bazmee said that he had a long association with Akshay Kumar, having worked with him on films like Welcome, Singh Is Kinng and Thank You. He also reunites with Vidya Balan after the recent Bhool Bhulaiyaa instalments.
