Aamir Khan's films from 3 Idiots to Dangal have performed well in Asian countries like China and Japan. The actor's Sitaare Zameen Par, which he produced
and starred in, is heading for a Japanese premiere next year. This marks the first time that Aamir is returning as an actor with his film to Japan in nine years. This year, his home production, Ek Din, starring his son Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, was shot in Sapporo, Japan. Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par was released in Indian theatres on June 20, 2025. The sports comedy-drama film is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma.
Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, will release in Japan next year
On X (formerly Twitter), the Japanese distributor of the Hindi film, Geek Pictures, revealed that the Aamir Khan film would have a spring 2027 release. The Japanese title for Sitaare Zameen Par is Sitaare! The Miracle Team of Stardust. The Geek Pictures post called the Indian film a "heartwarming ode to life filled with laughter and tears".
It will be released at Human Trust Cinema Yurakucho, Yebisu Garden Cinema and several other theatres in the country. Geek Pictures kicked off the announcement with a fun activity as they distributed stickers of the film's poster at Yoyogi Park Event Plaza in Tokyo. A man wearing an Aamir Khan mask was handing out the stickers to fans.
Aamir's earlier productions Dangal and Secret Superstar have also premiered in Japan. While Dangal (2016) was released two years later in 2018, the musical drama Secret Superstar, starring former actress and National Award winner Zaira Wasim, also had a two-year gap before coming out in August 2019.

Besides Aamir, Sitaare Zameen Par's cast includes Genelia Deshmukh, Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, Gopikrishnan K Varma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai and Naman Misra. Many of the cast were non-professional actors. During a conversation with Zoom, RS Prasanna had shared his early conversations with Aamir about the spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par (2007). They both insisted that real people with special needs should be cast in the Hindi film.
Sitaare Zameen Par is an official remake of the Spanish comedy Champions, which was released in 2018. The actor plays a has-been basketball player who turns coach to an inexperienced team of young players with disabilities. The film made its digital premiere late, as it was released on SonyLIV on April 3, 2026.
