The 98th Academy Awards is almost here, and new hints from the ceremony’s creative team suggest audiences may witness a surprising superhero moment. During
a recent press conference, executive producers teased the possibility of a special Marvel reunion on stage, sparking speculation among fans. While details remain under wraps, the producers promised a night filled with major star appearances, emotional tributes, and unique performances. The ceremony, set to take place at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, is expected to bring together some of the biggest names from the global entertainment industry.
Marvel reunion on the cards?
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, executive producer Katy Mullan teased what viewers could expect from this year’s show. While a reunion of the cast of Bridesmaids, including Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne, has already been confirmed, she hinted that superhero fans should also look forward to something special.
“We’re going to have superstars, superheroes, and they’re going to be an extra terrestrial on stage,” Mullan said, leaving fans wondering which Marvel stars might appear together. The comment has quickly fuelled speculation about a possible reunion featuring actors from the Marvel Studios universe.
Mullan was joined by executive producer and showrunner Raj Kapoor, who revealed that the overarching theme of the 2026 Oscars would be “humanity.” According to Kapoor, the ceremony will celebrate creativity and the human spirit through storytelling and performance. “Everything that you see in the show is inspired by human touch and creativity,” Kapoor explained.
Sinners on the Oscars stage
The creative team also revealed that the ceremony will feature a special tribute to the film Sinners, which has made history this year by earning an impressive 16 Oscar nominations. The film has shattered the previous record for the highest number of nominations in Academy Awards history.
According to Mullan, the tribute will include a large-scale performance celebrating the film’s cultural impact and global popularity. “There’s going to be a really special moment that pays tribute to how important that film has been this year, how beloved it is with audiences, and how it has resonated globally,” she said.
Earlier this week, the Academy also revealed a star-studded lineup of performers for the ceremony. The show will include musical tributes dedicated to Sinners as well as the animated hit KPop Demon Hunters. Among the performers announced are acclaimed singer Josh Groban, renowned ballet dancer Misty Copeland, and members of the vocal group HUNTR/X, including EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami.
Scheduled for March 15, 2026, the 98th Academy Awards will honour achievements across 24 categories and bring together filmmakers, actors, musicians, and artists from around the world. Priyanka Chopra will be one of the presenters.
