Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor’s Tu Yaa Main brings a new love story to the big screen on February 13. This Bejoy Nambiar-directed survival drama clashes
with Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri’s O’ Romeo, a classic Vishal Bhardwaj romantic drama. The trailer of Tu Yaa Main received strong reviews from the audience, who are anticipating an unconventional horror movie in theatres. While the survival drama looks fresh and rooted in the Mumbai milieu, it is inspired by a Thai horror film. It is the Hindi remake of The Pool (2018). Tu Yaa Main is The Pool's remake
The production value of Tu Yaa Main is better and more polished than The Pool. While the Thai movie’s trailer introduces the crocodile in the final moments, the Hindi cut highlights the protagonists’ struggles against the horrific situation. It establishes the characters, their dynamics and the plot better than The Pool’s trailer. The visuals of the Thai film’s promo are raw. Tu Yaa Main offers a more claustrophobic atmosphere, that has more impact with the background score. Since the Hindi version is a remake, Shanaya’s scene where she realises the water level is reducing is similar to the original. Bejoy’s take on The Pool gives the film a new life.
While the plot is inspired by The Pool, Tu Yaa Main seems to be a new version of the survival drama told through Bejoy’s lens. Back in 2018, The Pool received positive reviews, but it was also criticised for poor CGI and predictable plot points. Crawl, a 2019 film, had a similar story revolving around a father and a daughter, who along with their dog, find themselves trapped in the crawl space of their home and preyed upon by alligators during a Category 5 hurricane in Florida. It was critically and commercially successful.
Shanaya Kapoor reveals not watching The Pool
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Shanaya revealed that she did not watch the Thai film before shooting for Tu Yaa Main. The actress said she wanted to interpret scenes without a preconceived notion that comes from having seen something similar.

Tu Yaa Main is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under the banner of Colour Yellow, along with Vinod Bhanushali and Kamlesh Bhanushali of Bhanushali Studios Limited. It tells the story of content creators belonging to different economic and social strata. When they visit a farmhouse to relax, an unexpected situation traps them in an empty pool from where they struggle to escape crocodiles.
