Salman Khan’s much-awaited war drama Maatrubhumi has once again found itself at the centre of release speculation. Recent reports on social media suggested
that the film could be screened by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) next week, raising hopes of a theatrical release soon. However, a new update suggests that there has been no progress on the CBFC front yet. The film continues to remain stuck, while the makers are reportedly in discussions with government officials to find a way forward. With the clearance still pending and theatrical slots for 2026 limited, Maatrubhumi could potentially be pushed to 2027.
No CBFC Screening Yet For Maatrubhumi
Despite reports circulating online, there appears to be no confirmed CBFC screening date for Maatrubhumi at present. A source told Bollywood Hungama that the film continues to remain stuck, with the makers working towards resolving the pending concerns before approaching the certification process.
The source further revealed that the team is in touch with the relevant government officials and is making efforts to find a solution. Once the matter is resolved, the film is expected to proceed for certification before its theatrical release.
Will Maatrubhumi Release In 2026 Or 2027?
The uncertainty surrounding the film also leaves its release timeline unclear. While the makers have indicated that Maatrubhumi is slated to arrive in cinemas in 2026, a release this year could depend entirely on how quickly the current issues are resolved.
Even if the film receives clearance soon, finding a suitable theatrical window could prove challenging, given the limited number of vacant slots remaining in 2026. If the situation takes longer to resolve, the Salman Khan starrer could eventually be pushed to 2027.
Meanwhile, Maatrubhumi was originally announced under the title Battle Of Galwan and is inspired by the 2020 India-China conflict. The project was later rechristened Maatrubhumi and has remained one of Salman Khan’s most anticipated upcoming films. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the war drama features Salman Khan in a military avatar. The film has generated considerable curiosity because of its subject, scale and the superstar’s involvement. It is expected to showcase a different side of Salman as he steps into a gritty, action-driven role rooted in a real-life military conflict.
Apart from this, Salman is seen in Bigg Boss 20 as a host. He appears during Weekend Ka Vaar episodes. The reality show airs on JioHotstar at 9pm and Colors TV at 10:30 pm everyday.
