What is the story about?
A fire at Mumbai’s Film City disrupted multiple television shoots on Monday, October 5. The blaze reportedly broke out on the outer shade of a temporary
setup being used for Pati Patni Aur Panga 2, with smoke spreading towards the adjoining sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati and Hustle Season 5. Amitabh Bachchan, who was shooting for KBC 18, had to evacuate the premises as smoke reached the set. Meanwhile, rapper Badshah, actor Samarth Jurel and the contestants of Hustle 5 were also forced to leave temporarily. While no injuries were reported, the incident disrupted ongoing shoots and raised fresh concerns over fire safety at Film City.

Amitabh Bachchan Evacuated From KBC
Time Of India reported that according to Ashok Dubey, President of the All India Film Employees Confederation (AIFEC) and General Secretary of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), the smoke reached the KBC area and forced Amitabh Bachchan to step out. “The shade on the Pati Patni Aur Panga set caught fire, and the smoke spread to the adjacent sets of Hustle 5 and Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), forcing the crews to evacuate,” Dubey said. He added, “Amit ji also had to step out of the KBC set because of the smoke, bringing the shoots to a halt for nearly an hour and a half.”
Dubey further stressed that the situation could have been much more serious had filming been underway on the affected setup. “Fortunately, there was no shoot on the Pati Patni Aur Panga set; otherwise, it could have resulted in a major accident,” he said.
Badshah’s Hustle 5 Finale Shoot Disrupted
The incident also interrupted the finale shoot of Hustle Season 5. Badshah, actor Samarth Jurel and the show's contestants were reportedly present when smoke and the smell of burning became noticeable. The team was forced to leave the area temporarily as a precautionary measure. Tents located outside the nearby sets were also reportedly damaged in the fire.
The blaze did not spread extensively and was eventually brought under control by the fire brigade. The Hustle 5 finale shoot resumed after the situation was brought under control and the area was considered safe.
FWICE Raises Alarm Over Repeated Fires
The latest incident has renewed concerns over safety protocols at Mumbai's shooting locations. Dubey described the fire as another warning about the need for stronger safety measures across production facilities. He said fires at shooting locations have become increasingly frequent and recalled an incident at Royal Palms around ten days earlier, where a short circuit reportedly triggered a fire shortly before a shoot was scheduled to begin.
“I have been writing to the fire department and the Chief Minister for many years. We can't wait for a major tragedy to happen before swinging into action,” Dubey said. He added that the federation had already held discussions with government authorities regarding safety inspections. “We had meetings involving the labour officer, BMC officials and the federation's health and safety team, which was supposed to inspect sets and assess how work was being carried out,” he said.
Dubey also said that the federation would once again approach the authorities following Monday's incident. “We will be writing again, asking them to look into this concern,” he added. The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has also demanded an investigation into the fire. AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking a high-level inquiry into the incident and action against those responsible. Gupta alleged that basic fire-safety arrangements were missing at the affected location.
“This is not an accident; it is criminal negligence,” he alleged, adding that thousands of workers and artists are exposed to risks at shooting locations. “Accountability must be fixed at the top, and those responsible must face the law,” Gupta said. The association has demanded a thorough, time-bound inquiry into the cause of the fire, an FIR for alleged negligence against the channel, producer and production house, and accountability from Film City management.
AICWA has also called for compulsory fire audits, trained fire-safety personnel and firefighting equipment to be available at every shooting location. It further demanded strict action against productions that fail to meet mandatory safety standards.
