What is the story about?
Elvish Yadav is all set to continue his Bollywood journey with Malamaal Weekly 2. He has been cast in the much-awaited comedy sequel along with Riteish
Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav. The project gives the Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner another big break in his career as he aims to make a name for himself beyond his profession as a digital creator. Confirming his casting on August 13, Elvish wrote a heartwarming social media post that highlighted his journey from being an outsider in the industry and paving his way through it.
Elvish Yadav expressed gratitude
Elvish took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and wrote, "New film. New journey. I came from outside, I had no one in Bollywood. I rose from among you people, and your love has now brought me to the big screen. Whatever I am today, it's because of your love. And because of this very love, I am "MALAMAAL." Just keep the love going." The 28-year-old received a shoutout from singer Amaal Malik, who commented, "Congrats bro." Amaal was a contestant and fourth runner-up on Bigg Boss Season 19.
What do we know about Malamaal Weekly 2?
Coming back to Malamaal Weekly 2, Amit Joshi, who has co-directed Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, will now direct the film. The sequel will feature an all-new story, but is expected to keep the small-town setting, comedy of errors and chaos surrounding money that made the original film so popular. The film also sees the return of Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, along with Parineeti Chopra, Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shirodkar (her acting comeback). Reports claim the shoot begins in November this year.
Elvish Yadav's ever-rising popularity and success
For Elvish Yadav, the project is an important addition to his growing acting resume. The YouTube star and reality show personality is all set to make his Bollywood debut with Tiger Shroff in an upcoming action drama directed by Remo D'Souza. So, Malamaal Weekly 2 will be his second big acting project in Bollywood, signalling a clear shift toward a film career.
The sequel is being developed as a new story and not a continuation of the original's plot. Priyadarshan’s 2006 Malamaal Weekly was about a lottery ticket and the greed and comic rivalry that ensued when a group of villagers found a potential fortune. The film was a commercial success and was later remade in several Indian languages.
