Gal Gadot has opened up about her future as Wonder Woman now that the old DC Extended Universe has transitioned into James Gunn and Peter Safran's new
DC Universe. The actress said she has not had any recent conversations with Gunn or DC Studios about reprising her iconic role. While promoting her upcoming Prime Video thriller The Runner, Gadot said there have been no "specific conversations" about her return. She remembered the last time there was any real talk about the character, when the studio wanted to do a third Wonder Woman movie. "They came to the studio, and they really wanted to develop the third one," Gadot told ScreenRant, hinting that Wonder Woman 3 was in development before the sweeping restructuring of the DC franchise.
Gal Gadot's advice to next Wonder Woman
Gadot is still unsure whether she will reprise her role as Diana Prince, but her statements suggest she is ready to see another actress take on the role. "This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it's going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character," Gadot said, while wishing whoever eventually plays Wonder Woman a fun experience.
She was also grateful to have played the superhero, thankful to be "granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for."
Gal Gadot's tenure as Wonder Woman
Gadot debuted as Wonder Woman in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She got her standalone franchise, starting with Wonder Woman in 2017 and then Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020. She also reprised the role in Justice League and other DC projects.
Will Gal Gadot be back in the DCU?
Gadot's future in the franchise has been uncertain since Gunn and Safran took over the rebuild of DC Studios. Several of the actors and characters from the previous continuity have been retained, but Wonder Woman's casting has not been publicly resolved.
Gunn also previously said no new actress had been cast as Wonder Woman. Ana Nogueira has been attached to write the developing Wonder Woman project. That adds to speculation about the direction of the character under the new DCU.
Fan speculation has also suggested that Gadot could potentially join the new DCU as a different character, similar to Jason Momoa transitioning from Aquaman to Lobo. Names such as Big Barda, Talia al Ghul and Poison Ivy have been floated by fans.
