What is the story about?
It’s not just music fans who will miss Arijit Singh after he revealed that he would be stepping away from playback singing. Friends, colleagues, and collaborators
from the music industry shared that they would be missing the versatile singer as well. Shreya Ghoshal, who has sung some memorable duets with Arijit, also dropped an encouraging note on his Instagram post announcing his retirement. Cheering on his new phase, Shreya revealed that she was excited to hear and experience the music that he would create in the future. She refused to call it the “end of an era.” Instead, she encouraged him to soar higher and shared that an artist can’t be defined by traditional means and “be boxed in to fit in the set formula.”
5 unforgettable duets of Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal
While music lovers might not hear any more film duets by the two singers, there might be opportunities for the two to collaborate on other projects. In the wake of Arijit’s retirement, here are some of his and Shreya’s top five duets that are heard on the radio and frequent fans’ playlists.
Manwa Laage - Happy New Year
The soft romantic number Manwa Laage from the 2014 blockbuster directed by Farah Khan is composed by Vishal–Shekhar. Written by Irshad Kamil, the song is playfully picturised on the characters played by Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The expressive ballad depicts the feelings of romantic longing and suits the soulful voices of both singers.
Mein Tenu Samjhawan Ki - Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania
Originally sung by Pakistani singers Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Farah Anwar for the Punjabi film Virsa, the song was reimagined for the 2014 rom-com Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania by Shashank Khaitan. Sahir Ali Bagga's composition was created by Sharib - Toshi for the Hindi film, and Arijit and Shreya gave the emotional duet about love extra depth.
Pal - Jalebi
While the 2018 romantic drama Jalebi starring Varun Mitra and Rhea Chakraborty failed to make an impact, the song Pal from Pushpdeep Bhardwaj's film broke through. Composed by Javed-Mohsin, the song Pal is written by Prashant Ingole and Kunaal Vermaa and was later remixed by DJ Amit B. Singers Arijit and Shreya bring in the melody in this slow ballad about a couple's relationship.
Tere Hawaale - Laal Singh Chaddha
Composer Pritam was roped in for Aamir Khan's 2022 remake of Forrest Gump. The film was a disappointment at the box office, but the songs managed to connect with audiences. In particular, the duet Tere Hawaale from the extended edition saw Shreya take over from Shilpa Rao. Another version saw Shipa pair up with Tushar Joshi. The Amitabh Bhattacharya-written song has an old-world charm that is elevated by Arijit and Shreya's vocals.
Makhmali - Samrat Prithviraj
Composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, the 2022 historical period drama had songs written by National Film Award winner Varun Grover. Makhmali is picturised on Akshay Kumar's Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan and Manushi Chhillar's Sanyogita. Once again, the singers were praised for bringing out the romance through their soulful renditions between the ruler and his princess.
