What is the story about?
Saif Ali Khan has finally made his official Instagram debut, surprising fans who have followed the actor's long-standing distance from social media. The
Bollywood star, who once admitted to maintaining a secret Instagram account but rarely enjoyed browsing the platform, has now joined the photo-sharing app under his full name, 'Saif Ali Khan Pataudi'. His profile features a post celebrating the Pataudi Library, offering a glimpse into his love for books. The move comes two years after he spoke about preferring privacy and the peace of staying away from social media obligations and promotional expectations.
Saif Ali Khan's first post on Instagram
Saif's official Instagram account is already making headlines as the actor shared a carousel of pictures and captioned it as, "Pataudi Library.. Judging books by their cover.." The post includes one pic of Saif with a book, which speaks about his well-known passion for reading. His wife Kareena Kapoor Khan is the only account he is currently following and this adds to the thrill of his social media debut.
Saif's choice to join Instagram is a departure for an actor who has mainly kept his personal life free from the relentless glare of social platforms. While celebrities usually use Instagram to engage with fans and promote their work, Saif had previously revealed why he chose to keep away from that lifestyle.
Past remark on having a secret Instagram account
In an interview two years ago with Hindustan Times, Saif disclosed that he already had the Instagram app on his phone and even had a hidden account. But he said he didn't particularly enjoy utilising the platform. "I do have the Instagram app, and a secret account, too. I browse sometimes, but don't enjoy it much," he stated at the time, adding that he thought about removing the app several times but never did.
His past remarks are a fascinating background to his formal debut, as he was always interested in going through Instagram in private, but not interested enough to make his own life a regular part of the app's public feed.
Why did Saif stay away from social media?
Saif had also spoken about his reluctance to participate in the promotional demands often associated with social media. He explained that he did not want to feel compelled to present a particular image of himself or post content simply to maintain an online presence. "I don't want to get stuck in a position where I have to post other people's things," he had said.
The actor added that remaining off social media gave him a degree of peace, particularly because people did not routinely approach him to promote products or other content. He seemed to be saying he valued privacy over the demands of being always online. So his initial appearance on Instagram is a big shift, even if the first post is still anchored in a personal interest and not a typical celebrity introduction.
