In 2025, Priyadarshan declared that when he makes his 100th film, it would be with Mohanlal. A year back, he wasn’t sure whether it would be made. Today,
on March 21, the veteran filmmaker officially announced the film. Mohanlal is playing the lead in the family entertainer, which goes on floors later this year. The untitled film was announced with a video on YouTube, where the director, actor and producer Antony Perumbavoor spoke about the idea behind telling the story. Priyadarshan’s 100th movie does not have a title or a release date. It is expected to release in theatres in 2027.

Announcing the film with Priyadarshan, Mohanlal penned a long note for his friend. He started his tweet by mentioning that milestones are not achieved by one person; it is a collective effort, even of those who witnessed the journey. The veteran actor congratulated his ‘dearest Priyan’ on his 100th film. “I find myself without words for what that truly means to me. A hundred films is not just a number. It is a lifetime of stories told with passion, countless mornings driven by belief in the magic of cinema, and a journey of unwavering dedication that I have had the privilege of witnessing up close,” he wrote. Mohanlal said he is deeply honoured to be a part of the film. “Some moments are not meant to be explained, only felt and held close with gratitude,” he added.
Why did Priyadarshan sign Mohanlal for his 100th film?
In a previous interview, Priyadarshan explained why his100th film would be only with Mohanlal. Crediting the veteran Malayalam actor for encouraging him to make movies and tell stories that supported his career. The director then added that Mohanlal grew up together. Calling him a star, the filmmaker shared that, “He has so many options, but we mutually did well for each other. So, for my 100th film, I cannot think of anybody else because he said one thing: if it ever happens, it will be a record. The first film was with him, the 100th will be too.”

Priyadarshan and Mohanlal have given multiple hits in Malayalam. They worked together on films such as Boeing Boeing (1985), Chithram (1988), Akkare Akkare Akkare (1990) and Killukam (1991), to name a few. The recent one was Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham, co-starring Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh and Suniel Shetty, in 2021.
