As an athlete at Radford, Dalton held school records in every throws discipline, with several of her top-10 marks still standing. She was coached by the late Hal Connolly, an Olympic gold medalist in the men’s hammer throw. Director of Track and Field Shelli Sayers expressed enthusiasm for Dalton's return, highlighting her expertise as one of the best throws coaches in the area and her dedication to her athletes.

Her previous coaching achievements at Roanoke College, including multiple conference titles and numerous broken school records, suggest a strong potential for elevating the performance of Radford's throws group. For current and prospective student-athletes, this means access to high-level coaching that could enhance their development and competitive success. The re-establishment of a strong throws program could also boost the overall competitiveness of the Highlanders in conference and national events, potentially attracting more talented recruits to the university. Furthermore, as an alumna, Dalton's return reinforces the connection between the university's past athletic achievements and its future aspirations, fostering a sense of tradition and pride within the program.
What's Next?
With Lisa Dalton now leading the throws group, the immediate focus will likely be on integrating her coaching methodologies and developing the current roster of athletes. The program will aim to build on her past successes, with expectations of improved performances and potential record-breaking achievements in throws disciplines. Her presence is expected to contribute to the Highlanders' overall standing in upcoming track and field seasons. Recruitment efforts may also benefit from her reputation, potentially attracting more skilled throwers to Radford University. The long-term impact could see the Radford track and field program strengthen its position within collegiate athletics, particularly in the throws events, under her guidance.
