What's Happening?
Princess Cruises has unveiled several updates for its customers, including the addition of four new Alaskan cruises in 2028. These new itineraries, aboard the Discovery Princess and Crown Princess, will depart in April and September, offering three seven-day
cruises and one nine-day Inside Passage sailing roundtrip from Vancouver. To accommodate these additions, some Mexico and Pacific Coast voyages will be adjusted or canceled. Furthermore, the cruise line is modifying its Medallion shipping policy, moving the initial order drop from 30 days to 45 days before the cruise and the home delivery cutoff from 14 days to 16 days prior. This change aims to provide guests with more time to address any shipping issues. Princess Cruises is also launching its 'Blue Friday Sale' from November 6 to December 7, 2026, offering up to $400 in savings, up to 50% off cruise fares, free fares for third and fourth guests on select sailings, and 50% off cruise deposits. Additionally, bookings for 2028-2029 sailings to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, along with the 2029 Grand World Odyssey cruise, will open on November 10, 2026. The company is also implementing 'Arrival Groups' for smoother embarkation, starting with guests sailing from Buenos Aires on November 7, 2026.
Why It's Important?
These updates from Princess Cruises carry significant implications for the cruise industry and consumers. The expansion of Alaskan itineraries in 2028 reflects a continued strong demand for cruises to the region, indicating a positive outlook for the Alaskan tourism sector. The adjustment in Medallion shipping aims to enhance customer experience by reducing potential pre-cruise stress related to receiving essential boarding technology, which could improve overall customer satisfaction and loyalty. The 'Blue Friday Sale' is a strategic move to stimulate bookings during a key sales period, potentially attracting new customers and securing future revenue for the company. Offering substantial discounts and perks like free fares for additional guests can make cruising more accessible and appealing to a broader demographic. The introduction of 'Arrival Groups' is a step towards optimizing operational efficiency at ports, which can lead to a more pleasant embarkation process for passengers and potentially reduce logistical challenges for the cruise line. These changes collectively demonstrate Princess Cruises' efforts to adapt to market demands, improve customer service, and maintain a competitive edge in the global cruise market.
What's Next?
In the immediate future, Princess Cruises will launch its 'Blue Friday Sale' on November 6, 2026, providing a limited-time opportunity for consumers to book discounted cruises. Following this, on November 7, 2026, communications regarding 'Arrival Groups' will begin for guests departing from Buenos Aires, signaling a rollout of this new embarkation process. On November 10, 2026, the booking window will open for Princess Cruises' 2028-2029 sailings to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, as well as the highly anticipated 2029 Grand World Odyssey cruise, allowing travelers to plan their long-term voyages. The newly announced Alaskan cruises for 2028 will also become available for booking, with specific dates for these new itineraries in April and September. The revised Medallion shipping schedule will be implemented, ensuring guests receive their Medallions earlier, which should lead to a smoother pre-cruise experience. The cruise line will continue to monitor the impact of these changes on customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, potentially leading to further adjustments or expansions of these initiatives across its fleet and destinations.
