LG Display has introduced a new OLED manufacturing method called FLiPP (FMM-Less innovative Pixel Patterning), which is designed to produce brighter, more efficient, and significantly longer-lasting OLED panels. This innovative technology eliminates the
need for a fine metal mask (FMM), a component used in conventional RGB OLEDs for pixel patterning that can lead to manufacturing challenges, especially with larger panels. Instead, FLiPP arranges RGB pixels in order and then uses photolithography and UV light to remove unwanted areas. According to LG Display, FLiPP-enabled panels are 1.6 times brighter, last 2.4 times longer, and consume 13% less power compared to FMM panels. The company also states that FLiPP is free from panel size and resolution constraints, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, from VR and AR displays to ultra-large TVs and small wearable devices.
