What's Happening?
Aeris Resources has announced the completion of its acquisition of Peel Mining, following approval from the Supreme Court of New South Wales. The acquisition, effective from July 1, 2026, grants Aeris full ownership of the South Cobar Copper Project,
including the Mallee Bull and Wirlong projects. These projects hold a combined copper resource of 197,000 tonnes. Aeris plans to prioritize Mallee Bull as a near-term, high-grade ore source for its Tritton processing plant. The company is also working on a maiden ore reserve estimate and updating feasibility studies to support long-term mine planning.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition of Peel Mining by Aeris Resources is a strategic move that strengthens Aeris's position as a leading copper producer in Australia. By securing the South Cobar Copper Project, Aeris can enhance its production capabilities and expand its resource base. This acquisition is expected to support the company's growth and operational efficiency, potentially leading to increased profitability. The focus on high-grade ore sources and updated feasibility studies indicates a commitment to optimizing resource extraction and processing, which could benefit stakeholders and the broader mining industry.
What's Next?
Aeris Resources plans to complete a maiden ore reserve estimate for the Mallee Bull project in the first quarter of the financial year 2027. This will inform an updated long-term mine plan, expected early in the financial year 2027. Production permitting for Mallee Bull is prioritized, with completion anticipated by the financial year 2029. Additionally, Aeris will conduct resource drilling and mining studies at the Wirlong deposit to assess its potential as an additional ore source for the Tritton mill. These steps are crucial for expanding Aeris's copper production capabilities.
