What's Happening?
Jade Gas has signed a non-binding agreement to secure approximately A$1.1 billion in funding for the first phase of the Red Lake coal bed methane project in Mongolia. The agreement, made with Beijing Energy Linking and its consortium partners, marks a significant
step towards the development of the project. The initial phase involves drilling 175 wells, with PTBEL named as the lead contractor. The funding structure is based on a revenue-sharing mechanism, with the consortium recovering its investment from future gas sales.
Why It's Important?
This agreement is pivotal for Jade Gas as it seeks to develop a domestic gas resource in Mongolia, a country that imports most of its energy needs. The partnership with Beijing Energy Linking and other major Chinese energy organizations underscores the strategic importance of the project. It reflects the growing demand for reliable and proximate gas resources amid global energy supply chain challenges. The successful execution of this project could significantly enhance Mongolia's energy independence and contribute to regional energy security.
