What's Happening?
The Buffalo Bills have announced their 2026 training camp schedule, which will feature fewer practices at St. John Fisher University. This year, the team will hold seven open practices, a reduction from the 11 practices held in both 2024 and 2025. The training camp will commence
on July 29 and conclude on August 7, with all sessions starting at 8:30 a.m. The decision to shorten the schedule comes as the team continues its long-standing tradition of holding training camps at St. John Fisher, a practice that began in 2000. The only exceptions were in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bills have recently extended their agreement with the university through 2028, emphasizing the importance of this location for team bonding and preparation.
Why It's Important?
The reduction in the number of practices at St. John Fisher University reflects a broader trend in the NFL, where fewer teams are opting to hold training camps away from their home facilities. Despite this trend, the Bills' management, including General Manager Brandon Beane, values the off-site camp for its role in fostering team chemistry and focus. The continuation of this tradition underscores the significance of the Rochester area to the Bills' fan base, known as the 'Bills Mafia.' The decision to maintain the camp at St. John Fisher also highlights the team's commitment to engaging with fans in the region, which is crucial for maintaining strong community ties and support.
What's Next?
Fans eager to attend the training camp can participate in a public ticket lottery from June 24-26. Those selected will be notified and must claim their tickets through Ticketmaster within 72 hours. Additionally, the Bills will host their annual 'Return of the Blue & Red' practice on August 8 at the new Highmark Stadium, marking the first event at the venue. This event is expected to draw significant attention as it offers fans a chance to see the team in action at their new home.
