What's Happening?
Austrian Airlines is phasing out its Boeing 767-300ER widebody aircraft fleet by the end of 2026 as part of a broader modernization and standardization plan by the Lufthansa Group. The airline currently operates three active Boeing 767-300ERs for long-haul
routes, which are being progressively retired and replaced with new Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Several of these planes have already been sent to Arizona, United States, for dismantling. The full withdrawal of the model is expected to be completed before the end of 2026. Specifically, the OE-LAZ is scheduled to cease operations by late September 2026, with its final service to North America, while the remaining OE-LAE and OE-LAY will be decommissioned by the end of the year. These aircraft currently serve transatlantic and Asian destinations from Vienna. The airline's current fleet also includes Boeing 777-200ERs, Airbus A220-300s, A320ceo, A320neo, A321ceo, and Embraer E195-E1s.
