What's Happening?
The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB), in collaboration with VentureFuel, has initiated the eighth year of its Real California Milk Excelerator program. This initiative is designed to support emerging and growth-stage food and beverage companies in launching
and scaling dairy products. The program offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to transform innovative dairy ideas into successful businesses. California, being the leading milk producer in the U.S., provides a unique platform for these entrepreneurs. The 2026 program emphasizes commercialization, retail readiness, investor access, and artificial intelligence-enabled growth strategies. Participants will receive mentorship, industry connections, retail access, commercialization support, and funding opportunities. The program covers various categories, including beverages, snacks, cultured dairy products, cheese, butter, nutrition-focused foods, functional foods, frozen desserts, personal care, and pet products formulated with dairy ingredients. At the end of the program, participants will present their products at an event in California, where they will compete for marketing support and additional funding based on market performance.
Why It's Important?
The Real California Milk Excelerator program plays a crucial role in fostering innovation within the dairy industry. By supporting startups and emerging companies, the program helps bring new and diverse dairy products to market, which can drive consumer interest and expand the industry's reach. The focus on commercialization and retail readiness ensures that these products are not only innovative but also viable in the competitive market. The inclusion of artificial intelligence strategies highlights the program's commitment to integrating modern technology into traditional industries, potentially leading to more efficient production and marketing processes. This initiative not only benefits the participating companies but also supports California's dairy farmers by increasing demand for their products. The program's success could inspire similar initiatives in other states, further boosting the U.S. dairy industry's growth and innovation.
What's Next?
Applications for the 2026 Real California Milk Excelerator program are open until July 24. Following the application process, selected participants will engage in a 10-week program that includes mentorship and industry networking. The program will culminate in a live pitch competition, where four finalists will receive $30,000 in marketing support. Over the next 12 months, these finalists will compete to unlock an additional $100,000 based on their in-market performance. This competitive aspect encourages participants to refine their business strategies and maximize their market impact. The outcomes of this program could lead to the introduction of new dairy products in the market, potentially influencing consumer trends and preferences.
