What's Happening?
The Art Place Initiative (API) in St. Louis is providing local artists with affordable homeownership opportunities to prevent displacement from revitalized neighborhoods. Founded in 2019, API was created in response to the Gravois-Jefferson Historic Neighborhoods
Plan, which called for increased arts amenities and affordable housing. The initiative partners with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the Dutchtown South Community Corporation to build and sell homes to artists at below-market prices. API aims to build 18 affordable homes in the Gravois Park neighborhood, with three units currently under construction.
