Employees at Hachette Book Group (HBG) have voted to unionize, joining the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, Local 32035. The vote, which concluded with 388 in favor and 130 against, establishes the Hachette Workers Coalition (HWC) as the largest union in trade
publishing history, encompassing 600 union-eligible staff. This move follows internal organizing efforts that began in 2022 and culminated in the HWC's launch in April. The unionization effort faced anti-union messaging from the company, which hired LRI Consulting to facilitate informed voting.
