The Pentagon has awarded $7.1 million to Martin Materials Solutions to enhance the production of space-qualified cover glass in the United States. This investment, announced on July 17 under the Defense Production Act, aims to mitigate supply risks associated

Martin Materials Solutions, a small U.S.-based company, is among the few domestic suppliers of cover glass for satellite solar cells. The funding will be used to establish and scale production at the company's facility in Twinsburg, Ohio. Cover glass is a critical component that protects photovoltaic cells on spacecraft solar arrays from radiation and micrometeorites, while also filtering harmful wavelengths of light.
