What's Happening?
A recent survey by UiPath reveals that UK retailers are struggling with operational challenges despite widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. While 97% of retailers have implemented AI, nearly half report a lack of measurable commercial impact.
The survey highlights that delayed decision-making and poor data visibility are major barriers to agility during the peak trading season known as the Golden Quarter. Retailers are still heavily reliant on manual processes, with 79% of key operational decisions requiring manual intervention. The disconnect between data and decision-making is identified as a significant issue, with stock visibility failures and operational bottlenecks posing risks to commercial performance.
Why It's Important?
The findings underscore the importance of effectively integrating AI into retail operations to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency. As retailers prepare for the Golden Quarter, the ability to leverage AI for real-time insights and proactive problem-solving could be the difference between achieving commercial targets and facing underperformance. The reliance on manual processes highlights a gap in the full utilization of AI, which could otherwise provide a competitive edge by improving stock management, fulfillment, and returns processes. Addressing these challenges is crucial for retailers to protect margins and capitalize on peak trading opportunities.
