What's Happening?
The Writers Lab, supported by Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman, has announced the selection of writers for its Fall 2026 Lab Intensives in New York City and Los Angeles. This program, dedicated to women and nonbinary screenwriters over 40, aims to elevate
their work through script incubation. The Los Angeles cohort will convene at Women In Film and the American Film Institute, while the New York cohort will meet at the Writers Guild of America East and Lincoln Center. The intensives will focus on career-building strategies, followed by a writing residency to foster industry connections.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of The Writers Lab to Los Angeles signifies a growing commitment to supporting underrepresented voices in the film industry. By focusing on women and nonbinary writers over 40, the program addresses age and gender disparities in Hollywood, promoting diversity and inclusion. This initiative not only provides valuable opportunities for seasoned writers but also enriches the industry with diverse perspectives and stories. The involvement of high-profile supporters like Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman further highlights the importance of such programs in shaping the future of storytelling.
