What's Happening?
A Taiwanese retailer is offering the high-end RTX 5090 graphics card only as part of a bundle with multiple motherboards, due to ongoing GPU shortages. The retailer, PC Home, has created several bundles that include the RTX 5090 along with various components
such as motherboards, AMD GPUs, CPUs, and power supplies. The most notable bundle includes eight GIGABYTE motherboards and a 1000W power supply, priced at approximately $7,481 USD. This bundling strategy is a response to the scarcity and high demand for GPUs, which has been exacerbated by the so-called 'RAMpocalypse'.
Why It's Important?
The bundling of high-demand GPUs with additional components reflects the ongoing challenges in the global supply chain, particularly in the technology sector. This strategy may be seen as a way for retailers to manage inventory and maximize profits amid shortages. For consumers, it highlights the difficulties in acquiring standalone high-performance GPUs, potentially leading to increased costs and limited purchasing options. This situation underscores the broader impact of supply chain disruptions on consumer electronics, influencing market dynamics and consumer behavior.
