Arnov Sharma has developed an open-source, DIY point-and-shoot digital camera named PolyShot, aiming to replicate the nostalgic image quality of older digital cameras. The project is built around the Unihiker K10 dev board, which incorporates an ESP32-S3,
a 2-megapixel camera, and a micro SD card for photo capture and display. The camera features a custom PCB with three buttons for shutter, gallery, and next image, and its battery compartment is designed to provide a comfortable grip. A notable characteristic of the PolyShot is a few-second delay between pressing the shutter button and image capture. Sharma plans to address current limitations in future iterations, including improving image quality, which has evolved into a more traditional digital camera experience, and extending the approximately three-hour battery life. Ultimately, he intends to move beyond the Unihiker board and design the entire system from scratch using an ESP32-S3 module.
