Lam Research, a U.S.-based semiconductor processing equipment manufacturer, has announced a significant investment of approximately 9,298 crore Indian Rupees (over $1.1 billion USD) to establish its first silicon-component manufacturing facility in India.
This facility will be located in the Adinarayanahosahalli industrial area in Doddaballapura taluk, Karnataka. The state government has allotted 73 acres for the project, which is expected to create more than 1,000 direct high-tech jobs. The new plant will focus on manufacturing silicon components for the semiconductor equipment industry, aiming to enhance Karnataka's capabilities in advanced semiconductor materials and component manufacturing, complementing its existing chip design, engineering, and research ecosystem. The foundation stone for the project is anticipated to be laid shortly, with operations expected to commence within 18 months.
